The Day of Your Exam

 
 
 
 
 
 

ALL PATIENTS

 

 

  • Fill out the medical history questionnaire (new and returning patients) and bring it to your appointment. It is important to keep your records updated. This information is critical for the interpretation of your exam.

 

 

  •  Bring prescriptions and written instructions from your referring doctor.

 

  • Advise us if you have implants or other surgeries we should be aware of.

 

 

 

 

 

DIGITAL MAMMOGRAPHY & TOMOSYNTHESIS/ EXAM

 

  • Do not use deodorant, powder, lotion or perfume under your arms or on your breasts on the day of your exam.

  • Inform us in advance if you think you may be pregnant.

CORE BREAST BIOPSY (ULTRASOUND AND STEREOTACTIC GUIDED)

FINE NEEDLE, & CYST ASPIRATION

 

  • Inform us in advance about all medications you are taking including herbal supplements.

 

  • Do not use aspirin, motrin, blood thinner or fish oil for at least 3 days prior to your biopsy unless approved by Dr. Weinstock. Inform us in advance if you think you may be pregnant

 

  • Let us know if you have any allergies, especially to anesthesia.

 

  • Wear comfortable clothing.

 

  • Bring a tight fitting bra, or sports bra, to wear following your biopsy.

  • Eat a light meal a couple of hours prior to procedure so that you are not hungry!!

ULTRASOUND EXAMS

 

  • Breast: No preparation needed.

 

  • Transvaginal Pelvic Ultrasound: No preparation needed. A probe is inserted into the vagina to look at your ovaries and uterus. If we are looking only at your ovaries, and you still get your period, try to schedule examination between days 5 and 11 of your menstrual cycle. No need to drink water to fill bladder prior to examination.

 

  • Transabdominal Pelvic Ultrasound: If your doctor ordered a pelvic examination which includes a “transabdominal”study then you must drink 32 ounces of water (or any liquid) prior to the examination approximately 1 hour prior to the examination and drink for 30 minutes. We need a “full” bladder in order to examine your uterus and ovaries.

 

  • Abdominal: Do not eat for 6 hours before to your exam.  You may drink water.

 

  • Renal only (Kidneys): No preparation needed.

 

  • Thyroid: No preparation needed.

DEXA BONE DENSITOMETRY EXAM

 

  • No calcium tablets or Pepto Bismol prior to your exam

  • Do not have a Cat Scan WITHIN 2 WEEKS of your exam.

  • Wear comfortable clothing without buttons or zippers (sweatpants best!) 

 

GENETIC TESTING

 

 

  • Your saliva will be collected so do not eat, drink, or chew gum for at least 45 minutes prior to the test.
