WDI ADDS NEW SERVICES
Women’s Digital Imaging Adds New Options

Women’s Digital Imaging of Ridgewood (WDI) is now in its third year of providing comprehensive personal care for women with state-of-the-art technology. We offer digital mammography with Computer-aided detection (CAD) evaluated by a fellowship trained breast mammographer, breast ultrasound, general ultrasound including pelvic and ovarian screening, and bone densitometry.

We have recently added new specialties to maximize our goal of achieving the earliest, most accurate detection of disease and making the process less time consuming and more comfortable for our patients. These include:

NEW SERVICES

• Stereotactic Biopsies – WDI now offers sterotactic or x-ray guided biopsies for patients with a mammogram that shows a suspicious mass or calcifications that cannot be biopsied with our standard ultrasound guided procedures. Sterotactic biopsies are performed in our office using technology that precisely locates the abnormality and uses a vacuum-assisted device (VAD) to withdraw tissue. The process is quicker, less invasive and less expensive than open surgical biopsy. After a brief recovery time, patients resume normal activities.

• Genetic Counseling – Women with a strong family history of breast or ovarian cancer and women who have been diagnosed with cancer at a young age may be predisposed to cancer due to a mutation in the BRAC1 and BRAC2 genes. We are able to determine if a patient has this mutation by conducting a thorough family history and taking a blood sample for evaluation. If the result is positive, we will guide the patient through her options for additional screening and treatment.

• Sonohysterography (Saline Infusion Sonography) – A sonohysterography distends the uterine cavity with an infusion of fluid to look for polyps, fibroids or cancer. The saline outlines the lesion and allows for easy visualization and measurement. This process also screens for infertility. An injection of saline and air into the uterus will cause bubbles while passing through the fallopian tubes if there is patency.

• MyNDMA – WDI offers each patient the ability to set up a personal, secure website containing her digital mammography records in conjunction with the National Digital Mammography Archives. With this service, a patient can send her records electronically to another physician for comparison, surgery, or a second opinion.
